Looking back to Transfer Day

Can’t believe this is a week ago already and I still haven’t blogged about it! To be truthfully honest, I was so excited and having too much fun with Heidi doing our instastories that day that I thought I already captured the day. BUT for those of you who didn’t follow along our videos on Instagram (@chantelletoews) that day, here is my recap!

Heidi calls it an ‘anticlimactic’ procedure, which I think describes it very well! There was so much build up: drugs, injections, doctor’s appointments, blood work, tests, ultrasounds, IVs, and then the actual transfer was quick and painless.
Tuesday, March 20, was Transfer Day! Our appointment was at 12:30 pm and we were to arrive at 12:00 noon. Heidi came over before the appointment and then we were on our way to ones of the biggest and exciting days. Heidi was given strict instructions to have a full bladder for this procedure… and believe me, she did (no need for any more comments haha), along with no scented products as that disturbs the environment for the blastocysts.
When we arrived, we both got to ‘gown up’ and put on our cute little booties! Thank goodness we didn’t have to wear those ridiculous plastics hats that most people wear. Heidi had her height and weight taken pre-prego and we were roaring to go.

After what seemed like forever, we go to go into the ER room! They told us about the little blastocyst that was being transfer, showed us a picture, and then brought it up on the big screen tv for us to see them pick it up in the special tool they use for the transfer! It’s kind of hard to see it in this photo but it’s in the left of the tv.

Then they brought it into the ER room… EEK… this was actually happening. The doctor pulled up another screen and we were able to watch the full transfer! Seriously so cool – you can actually see the blastocyst the whole way, followed by a poof of air. Check out the video!

We had to wait in the ER room for 10 minutes, and then in our own room for 30 minutes before we were allowed to leave. After, you go about your normal routine and feel like nothing even happened… JUST KIDDING. We had to celebrate! First we went to McDonalds and got French fries (it’s a thing with all IVF patients and Transfer Day), came back to my house and made pineapple smoothies (pineapple helps with the implantation), went for manicures, came back to my house again for dinner, DQ blizzards, and popcorn (yes… I LOVE popcorn). Then we just had a really nice chill night!
Part of this still feels like a dream – what a cool journey we are on!
